Report: Winner named in Everton and Arsenal race to sign ‘one of the three best’ sporting…

The Friedkin Group completed their Everton takeover in December and it’s been a bust first three months in the job.

The American investors have sacked Sean Dyche and replaced him with David Moyes, assembled a new executive team and they’ve just confirmed Kevin Thelwell’s summer exit.

The reshaping of Everton is set to continue as they now look for a new sporting director to take over from Thelwell ahead of the summer transfer window.

David Weir has been linked to Goodison Park, however, he’s snubbed a move to Merseyside to stay put at Brighton and Hove Albion.

And now, the Friedkin’s have taken another setback in their hunt for a recruitment chief as Arsenal have managed to pinch him.

Arsenal beat Everton to signing of Andrea Berta

According to Giallo Rossi, the Friedkin Group were considering appointing Andrea Berta as sporting director of both Everton and Roma earlier this year.

Berta had enjoyed a successful spell at Atletico Madrid and was considered ‘one of the three best’ in the world.

However, over the last few weeks, Arsenal have moved ahead of Everton in the race to land the 53-year-old and now they’ve managed to agree a deal.

According to GiveMeSport, Berta has officially signed his contract with the Gunners, so it’s back to the drawing board for the Fredkin’s.

Everton should go all out to appoint Dan Ashworth

With Weir and Berta now off the market, Everton should focus their full attention on former Manchester United and Brighton chief Dan Ashworth.

The Friedkin’s are considering Ashworth, though, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has warned the Toffees about hiring him.

Ashworth and Ratcliffe appeared to clash with the latter suggesting there was an issue around ‘chemistry’.

So the Everton owners must be cautious.
