Vitor Pereira could equal long-standing Wolves record with win against Southampton

Wolves are preparing to travel to the south coast to take on Southampton. The Old Gold will be the overwhelming favourites to take all three points.

Despite Wolves sitting close to the relegation zone, they’re by far the better team. Ivan Juric’s Saints’ have had a dire campaign and are nailed on to return to the Championship.

Wolves cannot be complacent though. Vitor Pereira will demand a good performance and want to increase the gap at the bottom of the table by taking all three points back to the Midlands.

The head-to-head form guide suggests the Old Gold are well placed to do exactly that too.

Wolves are Southampton’s bogey team

Wolves will not only be expected to win based on this season’s performances, but their head-to-head record proves the Saints do not enjoy playing against them.

The Old Gold have won all their last six Premier League matches against Southampton.

Feb 14, 2021: Southampton 1, Wolves 2

Sept 26, 2021: Southampton 0, Wolves 1

Jan 15, 2022: Wolves 3, Southampton 1

Sept 3, 2022: Wolves 1, Southampton 0

Feb 11, 2022: Southampton 1, Wolves 2

Nov 9, 2024: Wolves 2, Southampton 0

MORE WOLVES STORIES

Their current record against the Saints is the club’s longest winning run against an opponent in the Premier League, and their longest since between 1974 and 2018 (seven wins against Burnley).

Defeat inexcusable

Wolves must take full advantage of how little Southampton have offered this season.

Southampton have won the fewest games, scored the least and conceded the most goals. The stars could not be more aligned for Pereira’s side to take all three points.

The fact they’re playing at St. Mary’s should not make the slightest bit of difference. The Saints’ supporters have already conceded defeat in the race for survival so morale is at an all time low.

Even without the suspended Matheus Cunha, Wolves must travel south and demand victory — anything less than a win with a solid performance on the south coast will raise alarm bells.
