WASHINGTON- U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued the following statement after members approved the nomination of the Honorable Christopher Landau to be Deputy Secretary of State, the Honorable Michael John Rigas to be Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, and the Honorable Matthew George Whitaker to be the United States’ ambassador to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization by voice vote during a committee business meeting.
“I’m glad our committee has moved three of President Trump’s national security nominees to the Senate floor. Our country faces many threats, and we _need_ to move President Trump’s nominees quickly to make America safer. I urge my colleagues to confirm these qualified candidates.”
