Free Agency 2025: Seahawks add speedy former Packers, Chiefs receiver

In the week leading up to free agency the Seattle Seahawks took a chainsaw to their receiver group, releasing long time veteran Tyler Lockett for salary cap reasons and agreeing to a trade that would send DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers once the new league year started. That left Jaxon Smith-Njigba as the only proven player in the receiver room, at least until Wednesday.

According to a report from NFL insider Tom Pelissero, Seattle general manager John Schneider has added a new receiver to help lessen the blow of those departures.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling posted a speedy 4.37 at the NFL Combine, however, he did that in 2018 at the age of 23, and it remains to be seen how much speed he has left seven years later as he quickly approaches 31 years of age this fall.

Drafted in the fifth round by the Green Bay Packers, MVS spent four years with the Packers before signing with the Kansas City Chiefs as a free agent. He started the 2024 season with the Buffalo Bills, but became expendable when the Bills traded for Amari Cooper midseason, and MVS then signed with the New Orleans Saints, where he finished out the year.
