**Trent Alexander-Arnold is “hopeful” of playing for Liverpool again this season, according to an encouraging injury update from reliable journalist Lewis Steele.**
The Reds were knocked out of the Champions League on Tuesday evening, losing to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties, but that was the only negative on the night.
Alexander-Arnold went off injured in the second half, going down in pain after attempting a tackle, and there have been fears about the length of his absence.
In fact, some Reds supporters are even fearful that the 26-year-old may have played his final game for Liverpool, should he seal a move to Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
According to the Daily Mail’s Steele on [X](https://x.com/LewisSteele_/status/1899870451842560327), however, Alexander-Arnold is confident that he will play again this season, even though he is definitely out of Sunday’s EFL Cup final against Newcastle United:
_“It is still too early to put a timescale on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s injury though the early sounds are that it is maybe better than some feared last night._
_“Will 100% miss the final on Sunday but he is hopeful of playing again this season.”_
**Big injury boost for Liverpool**
----------------------------------
While not having Alexander-Arnold at Wembley on Sunday is a clear blow, hearing that he may still play a part in the remainder of the campaign is great to hear.
Liverpool’s vice-captain is such an influential player, with no right-back in Europe capable of producing his level of quality from his role, so to see him out until the summer would have been a massive blow.
There is also an ongoing possibility that Alexander-Arnold will leave his boyhood club in the summer, amid continued links to Madrid, and the fact that he hasn’t yet signed a new deal with the Reds.
It remains to be seen what his decision will be, but if he ends up feeling that he needs a new challenge at this stage of his career, it is important that Liverpool fans see him on the pitch again before he departs.
Signing off with another Premier League title would be a fantastic way to bow out, but hopefully, he will spend the rest of his career at Anfield.
