France and Uzbekistan on Wednesday agreed to establish strategic partnership relations, as the Uzbek head of state held talks with his counterpart during a visit to Paris.

A joint declaration on establishing strategic partnership relations was adopted by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron following their talks at the Elysee Palace, according to a statement by the Uzbek presidency.

The statement said that Mirziyoyev and Macron discussed the further development and strengthening of Uzbek-French relations.

It said they paid particular attention to expanding cooperation in the trade, economic, investment, humanitarian, and financial spheres, as well as promoting cooperation projects with leading companies and enterprises in France.

“The heads of state also exchanged views on the current international and regional agenda,” the statement also said, adding that they underlined the importance of continuing mutual support within multilateral organizations and joining efforts in the fight against terrorism, extremism, and other modern security challenges.

It added that multiple other documents were signed during the state visit, including a declaration on cooperation within the framework of international organizations between the two countries.
