'As far as we're aware': The approach Wolves are set to take this summer as Fosun claim made -…

Wolves fans are hoping the club will still be in the Premier League come the end of the season.

It has been a very turbulent campaign so far, but there is optimism at the moment with Vitor Pereira having guided Wolves to six points clear of the drop zone.

Thankfully for Wolves, the three clubs in the bottom three right now are struggling to put up a challenge.

Wolves are without Matheus Cunha at the moment which isn’t good. But the next game is against Southampton, and the expectation will be to get three points even without the Brazilian.

Wolves need to get to the summer still as a Premier League club.

And then, there will undoubtedly be several changes to the squad.

Quite a few are out of contract, and then there are the likes of Cunha – who has a £62.5 million release clause – Joao Gomes and Rayan Ait-Nouri who will be the subject of interest from other clubs.

Wolves fans want to see a productive summer – and journalist Liam Keen has spoken a bit about what the club’s approach could be.

Fosun set to adopt self-sustaining model for Wolves again in summer transfer window

Last summer, Wolves made two big sales in the form of Max Kilman to West Ham United for £40 million, and Pedro Neto to Chelsea for just over £50 million.

Arguably, these two players – who had shown quality and consistency at Premier League level – were not really replaced.

Fosun came in for criticism amid Wolves awful start to the season for failing to sanction bigger deals to replace lost assets.

Wolves were certainly busy, making six new signings and turning Tommy Doyle’s loan move permanent.

Wolves only spent around the same as what they made through the Kilman and Neto sales, and Liam Keen has suggested the self-sustaining model will be in effect once again this summer.

He said on the latest E&S podcast: “There’s lot of different positions that Wolves can supplement and just make a creative and competitive squad that isn’t short, isn’t relying on one individual and has quality throughout.

“Now that’s easier said the done of course. As far as we’re aware, Wolves are still going to have the Fosun sort of financial model, financial plan going forward of being sustainable. Which means the Cunha money will hopefully be reinvested. I think it has to be.

“But that may mean another sale on top of that to bring enough money in if the deal was right. If they do that they have to spend the money right. If they do and the recruitment department have got the opportunity to get the players they want, recently I think they’ve had slightly more hits than misses and hopefully if that continues that will only improve the squad going forward.”

Fosun must show ambition for Wolves this summer

These comments perhaps won’t fill fans with too much confidence going into the summer.

It is going to be a huge window for Wolves, with exits of key players like Cunha and Semedo likely.

We all know Fosun like to sign off deals to bring young, unpolished gems with high ceilings to Molineux, in a bid to double or triple their value within a few years before selling them on for big profit.

Fosun should continue to sign off on these kind of deals, but it is paramount that ready-made stars are brought in as well.

It has just felt recently that the owners just haven’t been doing enough at Wolves. Pundit Joe Cole suggested Fosun seemed to have stopped investing, after the club’s draw with Everton at the weekend.

This squad actually does have the potential to go places. But if Fosun lack ambition this summer, we will again be talking about a relegation battle next term, rather than pushing for Europe.

That is, if Wolves are actually still a Premier League club come the summer.
