‘I didn’t want to’: AC Milan talent claims he once rejected Manchester United transfer for one clear reason

Manchester United are looking to recruit top young players under Ineos in an attempt to build a great team for the future.

This season has been difficult for Manchester United fans with Ruben Amorim’s side stuck in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

Amorim is taking the stance of short-term pain for long-term gain and that seemingly works with how Ineos have approached their strategy.

Ineos want to invest in young players and build a team that can bring success to Old Trafford for years to come.

Teenage defender Ayden Heaven joined United from Arsenal in January, making the same move as Chido Obi.

Add in the likes of Samuel Lusale and James Overy and United are clearly making a concerted effort to recruit young players for the future.

AC Milan talent Warren Bondo claims Manchester United snub

United have often looked at young talents but some have slipped through the net in years gone by.

One of them is Warren Bondo, who recently joined AC Milan from Monza during the January transfer window.

Bondo impressed in Serie A for Monza and is now looking to establish himself as a star at the San Siro.

The 21-year-old midfielder was in-demand as a teenager having broken through at Nancy, making his professional debut at just 17.

Bondo was handed a first professional deal at just 15 and has now told Foot Mercato that United wanted to sign him.

A deal with Paris Saint-Germain fell through and Bondo then decided to stay with Nancy.

Bondo claims that he simply didn’t want to leave France at such a young age and that’s why he rejected moves to United, Liverpool and Inter.

“I played a season in Championnat National U17, I was then supposed to go to PSG who offered me a pro contract, but it didn’t happen between the two clubs. I stayed in Nancy and they offered it to me,” said Bondo.

“When you’re little, you dream of being a pro, but not necessarily at 15. Nobody really imagines it. I knew I would sign a pro contract one day, but not so quickly, it even shocked me. When Paris wanted to offer me a pro contract at that time… me, the kid from the Paris region, well I think it’s magnificent. I ended up staying at the centre with my friends in Nancy, and so much the better. I didn’t want to go abroad, even if there were Liverpool, Manchester United and Inter Milan,” he added.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic on Warren Bondo

Bondo did leave Nancy to move abroad in 2022, completing a move to Monza.

After a loan spell with Reggina in 2023, Bondo has become a real talent in Italy and caught AC Milan’s attention.

As quoted by Sempre Milan, former United striker and AC Milan chief Zlatan Ibrahimovic explained just why he wanted to sign Bondo.

“Bondo is someone who covers space, works, does dirty work that is not always seen, but for the team he is fundamental and knows how to play with the ball at his feet. He can improve in many areas,” said Ibrahimovic.

AC Milan clearly believe that they have a talent of the future in Bondo, something United also spotted at a young age.

United even wanted Bondo in 2021 and he may be a name for Ineos to keep an eye on as he establishes himself in Milan.
