His outstanding 2023/24 season earned him the Players’ Player of the Season award
German Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich have reportedly expressed strong interest in signing talented Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The 33-time Bundesliga champions are understood to be in the market for defensive reinforcements to help boost their chances of success in the league and Europe next term after a productive start to the Vincent Kompany era at the Allianz Arena.
Dalot has competed on the continent in every season since turning professional with FC Porto in 2017/18 but could face up to the grim reality of no European football next season after the club’s poor form this season. But what does the future hold for Dalot? Here’s all you need to know.
Bayern Munich join the race to sign Diogo Dalot
German heavyweights Bayern Munich are plotting a move to sign Diogo Dalot, according to TeamTalk. The outlet understands Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany has been very impressed with the consistency and adaptability of the Portuguese footballer who has been one of United’s better performers in recent seasons.
Dalot arrived at United as a right-back six seasons ago from FC Porto and has proven throughout his career that he is capable of comfortably playing as a full-back on either flank and has consistently shown a desire to bomb forward and help his team create chances, with seven goals and 13 assists in 200 appearances across all competitions.
Dalot hasn’t missed a game due to injury since February 2023, and before that, his last setback was in 2019. He is also understood to be a huge professional behind the scenes, with an excellent diet, training routine and preparation schedule which makes him one of the best professionals at the club.
The 25-year-old notably won the Players’ Player of the Season award at United last term and was pivotal in helping his side win the FA Cup for the first time since 2016 with a shock 2-1 triumph over champions Manchester City.
Real Madrid are another club keeping tabs on Dalot’s availability although he is understood be third on the list of targets for the European champions, who are focused on making moves for Liverpool’s Trent-Alexander Arnold who is in the final year of his contract and Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong after his impressive form at the BayArena.
Diogo Dalot’s season in numbers
Diogo Dalot has racked up the most minutes of any United player this season and has remained a consistent presence in a challenging campaign for the Red Devils under both Ruben Amorim and predecessor Erik ten Hag.
His 2307 minutes in the Premier League this season is the most of any outfield United player and second only to Andre Onana across the whole squad. He has made 33 interceptions this term, which is 11th among all Premier League defenders, while 56 tackles also ranks him 10th.
Dalot has a WhoScoredaverage rating of 6.8 which makes him United’s joint best performing player on average alongside Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire
