Japan-based tech startup produces 1st AI-generated peer-reviewed scientific paper

**ISTANBUL**

Japanese tech startup Sakana AI has written the first Artificial Intelligence (AI) generated peer-reviewed scientific paper, the company announced Wednesday.

“We’re proud to announce that a paper produced by the AI Scientist-v2 passed the peer-review process at a workshop in ICLR (International Conference on Learning Representations), a top AI conference,” the company wrote on X.

It said the paper generated by AI Scientist-v2, an upgraded version of the original AI Scientist, successfully passed the same peer-review process that human researchers undergo.

The company said it partnered with the University of British Columbia and the University of Oxford on the project.

AI Scientist is an artificial intelligence program developed by Sakana AI, designed to produce scientific research from idea to report all on its own. It was introduced in August.

The company said it will share new details about the upgraded AI Scientist-v2 in an upcoming release.

“We believe the next generations of The AI Scientist will usher in a new era in science,” it said, noting the immense progress AI has made.

“But this is just the beginning. We expect AI to continue to improve, potentially exponentially. At some point in the future, AI will probably be able to generate papers at and beyond human levels,” the company added.
