West Ham have the chance to bolster their ranks this summer ahead of the next Premier League season

West Ham turned to Graham Potter as their new manager earlier this winter after they made the decision to cut ties with Julen Lopetegui. The former Swansea City, Brighton and Hove Albion and Chelsea man took a break from the game for a while after being sacked by the latter.

He has returned to the Premier League feeling refreshed and he has the chance to put his own stamp on the Hammers this summer. The London outfit ended up having a pretty quiet January transfer window and didn’t want to rush into any deals.

They are currently sat in 16th place in the table and despite their lowly position, it is unlikely that they will be relegated to the Championship. The bottom three of Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town looks pretty set in stone unless Wolves in 17th collapse.

Paul Pogba - free agent

He has dropped a hint on social media that he is ‘back’ and ready to return to the game. The door could swing open later this year for teams in England like West Ham to try and lure him back to the Premier League.

Pogba, 31, hasn’t played for over a year now and will be itching to get back out on the pitch. If the Hammers were to land him, he would give them more competition in midfield and would inject some serious quality into their midfield department.

The Frenchman was with Manchester United from 2016 to 2021 after re-signing for the Red Devils. He went on to play 226 games for the Old Trafford outfit and scored 39 goals before heading out the exit door when Juventus came calling.

Jonathan David - Lille

West Ham could do with a bit more firepower up front and the Canada international, who has 59 caps to his name, could be ideal. He has proved he knows where the back of the net is over in France with Lille and should test himself in a new country.

David, 25, would give the Hammers something different up top if they managed to persuade him to switch to the London Stadium. Getting him on a free transfer would also be a great bit of business and would save the club money to pave the way for other reinforcements.

The forward joined his current club back in 2020 after catching the eye over in Belgium at Gent. He has since fired 106 goals in 222 matches, 22 of which have come in this campaign, and he helped the Ligue 1 team get into the Champions League last year.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin - Everton

If West Ham aren’t able to get David, Calvert-Lewin could be a useful alternative. His deal with Everton expires in late June and he is yet to put pen-to-paper on an extension with the Merseyside club.

The Toffees are moving into their new stadium later this year but it remains to be seen whether the ex-Sheffield United man will be staying put or leaving for a change of scene. He has the opportunity to weigh up his options over the next couple of months and he is in no rush.

Calvert-Lewin could be worth a punt by the Hammers and getting him may turn out to be a shrewd move if they opted to do it. He has bags of experience and has found the net on 71 occasions in 270 games since moving to Merseyside.
