Alexander Isak has added his name next to Alan Shearer in Newcastle United’s list of legendary strikers.
The 25-year-old has scored 22 goals in all competitions this season and is now on the brink of making club history.
Alexander Isak is chasing Alan Shearer’s records at Newcastle, and he has a chance to go one step better and lift a trophy in black and white this Sunday during the Carabao Cup final.
There was an Isak injury scare this week but Howe cleared up the rumours and the Swedish star featured in the 1-0 win over West Ham on Monday evening.
Isak will be key for Newcastle in the final – he was sorely missed against Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League when Arne Slot’s side were comfortable 2-0 victors.

Is a prime Alan Shearer better than Alexander Isak?
That is the question posed to Alan Shearer in the latest episode of the Rest is Football podcast alongside Micah Richards and Gary Lineker.
Shearer has called Isak ‘world-class’ and one of the best three players in the Premier League, but if Newcastle could only start either Isak or him up front, who would get the nod?
Shearer doesn’t even think it’s close, and his brilliant response had Richards and Lineker in stitches.

“I mean Isak is a good player but come on guys… Boom,” Shearer said.
Then when Lineker suggested they would make a good partnership, he added: “I was just about to say I wouldn’t mind playing up top with him.”
On Sunday, Shearer will be making the trip down to Wembley with the Newcastle fans, and he has decided to watch the game from the stands rather than take up a punditry gig.
Shearer has named his cup final XI, and unsurprisingly Isak stars up front. Shearer is desperate for Newcastle to win a trophy, saying he would rather that than qualify for the Champions League this season.

“If you’re asking me from a Newcastle point of view, I would rather finish fourth bottom and win the Carabao Cup,” he said.
“Any day. Give me any trophy!”
Shearer hasn’t made a prediction for the final but he did love Gary Lineker’s crazy Carabao Cup prediction made on the podcast.
