New film highlights India’s police brutality and caste violence

This year, the UK selected a Hindi-language crime drama set in India, as its submission in the Oscars international feature film category. It was written and directed by Sandhya Suri, who’s from Darlington and was originally a documentary maker.

‘Santosh’ is her feature-length debut, following a 28-year-old female police officer who comes face-to-face with India’s deep-rooted societal issues.
