Vice Speaker of Kyrgyz Parliament attends 69th session of UN Commission on Status of Women
AKIPRESS.COM - Deputy Speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament Jamilya Isaeva took part in a round table on the second day of the 69th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women in New York dedicated to national mechanisms for ensuring gender equality and empowerment of women and girls.
Isaeva noted that despite the progress achieved in recent decades, women and girls still face many barriers that prevent their full integration into the socio-economic and political life of the country, the parliamentary press service reports.
She added that these barriers relate to both cultural and social traditions, as well as political and economic instability, which sometimes limit their opportunities.
The Vice Speaker of the Parliament noted that the Kyrgyz Republic is creating effective national mechanisms to ensure gender equality in order to implement the Beijing Platform.
Jamilya Isaeva focused on the improvement of the legislative framework, the creation of institutional structures such as the Council on the Rights of Women, Children and Gender Equality under the Speaker and the National Council on Family, Gender Development, Social Protection and the Protection of Children's Rights under the Cabinet of Ministers.
