63rd annual Variety Kids Telethon raised more than $1 million

The 63rd annual Variety Kids Telethon last weekend raised $1,070,255 for Oishei Children's Hospital and other children's charities, the Variety Club of Buffalo Tent 71 announced.

The telethon aired live from Variety Club headquarters in Lancaster for five hours Saturday evening on WGRZ-TV, Channel 2, and for 10 hours Sunday on WBBZ-TV, Channel 67.1.

Hosts included personalities from both stations, along with Variety president emeritus Paul Cambria and former Buffalo Common Council president Darius Pridgen.

Returning as a performer was Donny Most, who played Ralph Malph on the "Happy Days" TV series. He was joined by Joe Andreessen and Darryl Talley of the Buffalo Bills, Robby Takac of the Goo Goo Dolls, Buffalo-born Las Vegas entertainer Frankie Scinta and singer Sydney Sterlace from West Seneca, a contestant on Season 26 of "The Voice."

Celebrity child for the telethon was Evelynn, a 3½-year-old cancer patient at Oishei Children’s Hospital. Leading the corporate donors was Delta Sonic, which contributed more than $100,000 raised through sales of coupon books and Buffalo Bills collector glasses, as well as rounding-up donations from customers at checkout.
