New Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi has been aggressive this offseason in trying to turn over the team's roster. Last year, Tennessee finished with a 3-14 record, so massive changes are needed throughout the organization.
While there was a shortage of talent on the team in 2024, there were a handful of players that many felt were deserving of another contract with the team. Wide receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine was one of these players, but Borgonzi let him walk in free agency and sign with the Miami Dolphins on a cheap deal.
On Wednesday, Titans beat writer Terry McCormick reported that not only did the team offer Westbrook-Ikhine a contract, but that it was a similar deal to what the Dolphins offered. However, the five-year veteran chose to play in Miami instead.
Westbrook-Ikhine's decision to leave the team and become a Dolphin is a bit troubling for the new regime in Tennessee. Last season, he caught 32 balls for 497 yards and a team-high nine touchdowns.
He had more receiving touchdowns than the rest of the wide receiver room combined, but still, Borgonzi could not convince him to stay in Nashville. He starred in Brian Callahan's offense last season, recording career highs in receiving yards and touchdowns, but still, he felt the grass was greener in Miami.
Tennessee pivoted and signed veteran wide receiver Van Jefferson, but he was nowhere near the player that Westbrook-Ikhine was in 2024. If established players keep leaving the organization during the offseason, then Callahan and Borgonzi's tenure might be over sooner rather than later.
