Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes has a message for Adidas.
The German brand returned to St James’ Park in the summer of 2024, once again becoming Newcastle United’s official kit provider.
It has been an emphatic return, with Toon fans absolutely loving pretty much everything that Adidas have provided so far. Newcastle’s special Carabao Cup final shirt did not go down well with supporters, but that felt like a club decision rather than anything to do with Adidas.
They will now have plans in motion for Newcastle United’s next selection of kits. But if they are struggling for inspiration, Bruno Guimaraes has an idea.

Bruno Guimaraes loves 1999 Newcastle United kit
During an interview with Bleacher Report Football, the Brazilian midfielder has been looking back at classic Adidas kits from all over the world and naming the players who they make him think of.
He was shown a couple of Newcastle United shirts, one of which was the 1999/2000 jersey.
“This one Alan Shearer was in, no?” he asked.
“This one is classic. We should do something similar to that, yeah!”

Adidas have already gone retro at Newcastle United
Adidas could do a lot worse than follow Bruno’s advice!
The 1999/2000 kit was exceptional, and that is a season that the Magpies’ kit providers have actually already paid homage to.
This season’s third kit is based on the away jersey from that campaign – a white shirt with teal and a black collar.
Newcastle United fans saw it as recently as Monday night. Eddie Howe’s players wore it as Newcastle beat West Ham 1-0 at the London Stadium.
In fact, all three of Newcastle’s kits this season are inspired by the club’s past. The home shirt is very similar to the 2001/03 one, while the away kit is a tribute to 1995/96. That is one of the club’s most iconic kits ever.
Adidas have leaned heavily on Newcastle United’s history so far, so it would not be a major shock if Bruno got his wish with regards to the 1999/2000 shirt.
