Everton looking into summer move for Newcastle United star after his decision to stay in January

ยท March 12 2025, 21:00

**January saw Newcastle United lighten their squad with the exits of Miguel Almiron and Lloyd Kelly, but while other exits were expected to materialise those were the only two first-team exits before the window closed.**

Martin Dubravka looked to be heading to Saudi Arabia with Al-Shabab but he was, at the time, first-choice goalkeeper with Nick Pope out injured and his form, particularly as Newcastle romped to nine straight wins, meant Eddie Howe worked hard to persuade the Slovakian to stay at the club.

Another player who was tipped with a possible January exit is Newcastle academy graduate Sean Longstaff whose sale would raise significant funds in terms of PSR as he would be seen as a pure profit sale.

However, with a Carabao Cup final on the horizon, Longstaff pleaded his case to remain at the club for at least the remainder of the season.

Sean Longstaff is 'open' to a move this summer

**Everton are still keen on Sean Longstaff under David Moyes**

Sean Longstaff was given a one-year contract extension by Newcastle in a bid to secure his value, meaning that if any club were to make a move for him this summer, they would have to pay to acquire his services.

With Longstaff reportedly open to a move according to TalkSPORT, David Moyes is now looking to bring Longstaff to Everton after the [Toffees were linked with the 27-year-old during the Sean Dyche era.](https://nufcfeed.com/newcastle-united-could-potentially-bag-12m-pure-profit-sale-this-month-with-premier-league-club-eyeing-midfielder-1098137)

It isn't suggested how much Everton would likely have to pay for Longstaff, but we don't imagine it would be a significant figure given his current squad status and with just a year left on his deal, but the pure profit aspect of selling him makes it a good sale.

Can Longstaff's gamble to stay so he can lift a trophy with Newcastle pay off on Sunday?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Longstaff's minutes have been dramatically reduced this season after being a firm Eddie Howe favourite for the last couple of years.

Longy was a good luck charm earlier this season with Newcastle winning every game in which he started, but since that streak was broken, he's failed to have any real positive impact when he's been used.

Hopefully Longstaff's desire to stay at the club in order to be part of the team that lifts the first domestic trophy in 70 years pays off on Sunday when Newcastle take on Liverpool at Wembley for the Carabao Cup.
