Official: Erin Cuthbert signs new contract extension

Barely a week after our longest-serving player, Millie Bright penned a new contract, our second longest-serving player, Erin Cuthbert has done the same as well, with Chelsea announcing an extension through the summer of 2027 for the 26-year-old midfielder.

Yes, Cuthbert is still just 26!

She will celebrate a decade in Blue as she sees out this new contract, having already notched over 250 appearances for us since joining from Glasgow City as an 18-year-old ahead of the 2017 season. She’s been a first-team regular ever since, initially as a versatile utility player, then steadily rising in importance and becoming a key component of the Chelsea FCW midfield.

And she’s still only just getting started.

“I’ve got more in the tank. I’ve got more to give and my ceiling isn’t set. I don’t know where my ceiling is, but I think it’s nice [that the coaching staff] see that as well.

“I’ve always been a player who wants the ball, but due to different styles, the midfield has not necessarily been used in that way, although that was effective for us at times and we won games.

“I don’t want to only be Erin the combative player who gets stuck in. I want the balance of that and she’s good at counter pressing, but she’s also good at finding the killer pass that leads to a goal, or she’s getting herself on the edge of the box. That’s what I need to keep challenging myself with.”

Let’s go!

“Erin is one of the leaders in the team and now in her prime. She has been a key player in our success over the last eight years and recently surpassed 250 appearances for the club, which is testament to her reliability and consistency. We have seen her develop into one of the best central midfielders in the world and look forward to seeing her continue to progress in the upcoming years.”

Congrats, Erin! Let’s keep winning all the things!
