Why Phoenix Suns ‘Have Nothing to Play For’ as Season Winds Down

It has been a disappointing season thus far for the Phoenix Suns as they have not lived up to their lofty expectations.

Of course, the Suns were expected to compete near the top of the Western Conference this season due to their superstar trio of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, along with having the largest salary in the NBA.

Instead, it has been a season full of struggles for Phoenix as they currently sit 11th in the West standings with an abysmal 30-35 record.

Despite this, the Suns are only two and a half games back of the Dallas Mavericks for the final Play-In spot and with the Mavericks' roster decimated by injuries, they may be able to sneak their way into a Play-In spot by the end of the season.

While that may be the case, ESPN's David Dennis Jr. recently gave his thoughts on the rest of the season for the Suns.

"This is just a lame duck two months of their (Suns) season," Dennis Jr. said on ESPN's NBA Today. "What are they playing for? We all know what's going to happen. We all know that Kevin Durant is gone this summer. We all know that they tried as much as they possibly could to get rid of Bradley Beal. They have nothing really to play for. And I think that the Portland Trail Blazers are going to jump over them and get to the 10th seed."

Dennis Jr. did not hold back and he also made some solid points about knowing that the Suns are likely to blow up their roster in the offseason by trading Durant and possibly Beal.

Despite this, the Suns do still have something to play for as they could sneak their way into the final Play-In spot in the West, but even if they do so, do not expect them to make it very far in the playoffs.
