Exclusive: "Horrible" Man City Star Ranked As The Most Difficult Fullback To Face In The Premier League By Former Utd Ace

Former Manchester United and Leeds midfielder Lee Sharpe claims he would have found it very difficult facing Manchester City fullback Kyle Walker

Speaking exclusively to Man City News (courtesy of BetBrain), Sharpe said that the 34-year-old “would have been horrible to play against” in his prime:

“He’s left now, but Kyle Walker would be one [I wouldn’t want to face]. Kyle Walker – I would hate to play against every week. Trent Alexander-Arnold, I would probably enjoy playing against every week, because I know he likes to get forward a little bit more. I know he sort of switches off when the ball is on the other side. So I could have maybe nicked in front of him and got a goal.”

“But then again, against Trent, I would have had to work twice as hard defensively because I know he likes to get forward and create chances. So he would have caused a problem on one hand, but maybe give a bit of an easier time on the other. But definitely, Kyle Walker would have been horrible to play against.”

Walker is still a City player, although he may not be for much longer. He is currently on loan at AC Milan until the end of the season, and the expectation is that he will be sold this summer.

Replacing Walker will be a massive challenge

During his eight years at the Etihad, the right-back has won 17 major honours, including six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups, two Community Shields, a Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA World Cup.

Walker has been an integral part of the club’s success since the arrival of Pep Guardiola and it will be difficult to find a replacement who can match his ability.

Which right-backs have been linked with a move to City?

Juventus’s Andrea Cambiaso is said to be the top target for the Premier League champions. A move was considered during the January transfer window and the club could revive their interest in the summer.

The Italian international could cost as much as €70m (£59m) so there is a chance that the Cityzens will consider cheaper alternatives.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong has also been considered as a potential successor to Walker in the past, and it is believed that the ex-City academy player could be available for just €40m (£33.7m).
