When Man United will begin work on 100,000-seater stadium as Old Trafford demolition timeline shared

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos wasted no time in drawing up plans for a state-of-the-art 100,000-seater stadium for Manchester United.

Just over a year on from the Ineos takeover, Manchester United revealed stadium photos after finalising plans for a new 100,000-seater venue.

United fans were torn on the new stadium and its bold features, including three towering masts which support a canopy designed to collect solar energy and rain water.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe approved a ‘last-minute’ change to the stadium design but the plans have now been finalised with lead architect Norman Foster confirming the new stadium will be complete in 2030.

Manchester’s ship canal will play a vital role in the shortened construction timeline, with the stadium made up of 116 separate “meccano-like” pieces that will build United’s new home.

Man United stadium work to begin this year

With a 2030 finish date on the calendar, Ineos and Ratcliffe are keen to get going with the stadium project.

However, the stadium is part of a wider government-backed regeneration project, and the club needs the go-ahead from Chancellor Rachel Reeves before getting started.

However, iNews report that United are planning for construction to begin before the end of the year, meaning match-going fans will likely see progress around Old Trafford next season.

If there are any hiccups or delays, Foster did explain that the timeline could be pushed back to 2032, but ideally, the stadium will be finished in five years.

When will Man United play final game at Old Trafford?

During the construction phase of the stadium, United will continue to play at Old Trafford with no need to groundshare at any point.

The report above explains that United will then begin to demolish and flatten Old Trafford once the new stadium is built and finished.
