Eagles begin the new league year with two uninspiring acquisitions

Philly finally makes a move, two of them actually. They re-sign a fullback/linebacker hybrid and add another running back for the backfield.

It's fun being a Philly sports fan though we trust the Philadelphia Eagles more than the Phillies or 76ers. We've gone from trusting a process that proved untrustworthy to being asked by Howie Roseman to be patient.

We'll give Howie the benefit of the doubt though.

We've given our vice president/general manager the benefit of the doubt over the years, and we'll continue you to do so. We can't lie to you though. We aren't inspired by the first two additions made during free agency.

Eagles announce the signing of Ben VanSumeren and A.J. Dillon.

Here's a fun fact. Each of the NFL's other 31 franchises re-signed someone from last season's roster before Philly did the same. The new league year is underway, and the Birds have announced their first two signings.

Both are underwhelming. We take that back. We like Ben VanSumeren.

The linebacker/fullback hybrid was Philly's first announced signing after the clock struck 4 p.m. EST on Wednesday. He signed a one-year deal. [It was reported that Kenneth Gainwell will walk in free agency](https://insidetheiggles.com/eagles-news-an-underrated-fa-moves-on-updates-potential-compensatory-picks). The Eagles have, however, added a tailback to the roster.

This one is A.J. Dillon, formerly of the Green Bay Packers.

The Birds had four tailbacks on their roster shortly after Kenny G's release: Saquon Barkley, Will Shipley, Tyrion Davis-Price, and Lew Nichols.

Dillon spent his first four NFL seasons with the Cheeseheads. He has added 2,428 rushing yards and 16 rushing TDs to his professional resume along with 763 receiving yards and two more TDs thanks to 86 receptions. On August 27, he was placed on their injured reserve with a neck injury which officially ended his 2024 season [](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A._J._Dillon#cite_note-b625-64)before it began.
