Open Extended Reactions

Lakers star LeBron James has returned to Los Angeles, per medical recommendation, as he continues to progress well from a groin strain he suffered against the Boston Celtics on Saturday, league sources told ESPN.

James' return to L.A. comes as the team finishes its four-game road trip Thursday against the Bucks in Milwaukee and Friday against the Nuggets in Denver.

James left the road trip prior to the Lakers' flight from New York to Milwaukee on Wednesday.

James exited the Celtics game at TD Garden with 6:44 remaining in the fourth quarter and did not return. He downplayed the injury afterward, saying there was "not much concern" and vowed to "go day to day" in treating it.

Sources told ESPN at the time that James would miss at least one to two weeks with the injury.

James, 40, has played in 58 of the Lakers' 63 games. He is averaging 25 points on 51.7% shooting (38.4% from 3), 8.5 assists and 8.2 rebounds this season.

ESPN's Dave McMenamin contributed to this report.
