The Utah Jazz are currently in the midst of a six-game losing streak. One of those six losses came in a 125-122 defeat against the Washington Wizards on Mar. 5.
Jazz star Lauri Markkanen was not made available for that away-game matchup against the Wizards, listed on the Utah injury report with a "lower back injury management" designation.
On Wednesday, the NBA announced a $100,000 fine for the Jazz - finding the team in violation of the league's new Player Participation Policy.
"The NBA announced today that the Utah Jazz organization has been fined $100,000 for violating the league's Player Participation Policy," the league wrote in a statement on Wednesday. "The violation occurred when the Jazz failed to make Lauri Markkanen, a star player under the Policy, available for the team's game against the Washington Wizards on March 5 at Capital One Arena, as well as other recent games. The Policy, which was adopted prior to the the 2023-24 season, is intended to promote participation in the NBA's regular season."

Markkanen is considered a "star player" under the NBA's Player Participation Policy due to his lone All-Star appearance in 2022-23. The 27-year-old forward last appeared in a win over the Houston Rockets on Feb. 22.
The Jazz currently hold the last-place 15th seed in the Western Conference with a 15-50 record. In 43 game appearances so far this season, Markkanen is averaging 19.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.
Markkanen is listed as questionable with a back injury heading into Wednesday night's matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies.
