It has already been a UEFA Champions League campaign full of thrilling drama - and that continued into the last 16 stage, with a number of ties to remember.
But Arsenal and Aston Villa both went through to the last eight, at the expense of PSV and Club Brugge respectively.
Highlights elsewhere included some amazing drama in Madrid, as Real saw off Atletico in a [wild penalty shoot-out](https://www.tntsports.co.uk/football/champions-league/2024-2025/julian-alvarez-penalty-var-miss-atletico-real-madrid-last-16_sto20904870/story.shtml), while Borussia Dortmund came back to beat Lille.
So who is likely to face who in the semi-finals of the competition?
How did the English clubs fare in the quarter-finals?
-----------------------------------------------------
Liverpool may be heading for the Premier League title, but their quest for a seventh European Cup ended at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain.
Despite a 1-0 win at the Parc des Princes in the first leg, Liverpool lost 1-0 at Anfield in the second meeting at Anfield, leaving the tie poised at 1-1 on aggregate.
The French side then won on penalties, with Gianluigi Donnarumma emerging as the PSG hero, saving efforts from both Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones.
Arsenal did the job in their last-16 tie in comprehensive fashion against PSV.
The Gunners banished their goalscoring woes in the Premier League by winning 7-1 in the first leg in the Netherlands.
A 2-2 draw in the second leg in north London completed a 9-3 aggregate win and a meeting in the last eight next month with Real Madrid.
And it was party time for Villa as they reached the last eight for the first time since 1983.
Villa won 3-1 at Club Brugge in the first leg and finished the job at Villa Park with a 3-0 win, for a 6-1 aggregate victory.
Unai Emery's team now face PSG in the quarter-finals.

Who could Arsenal and Aston Villa face in UEFA Champions League semi-finals?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Arsenal and Aston Villa both face immensely hard tasks in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
The Gunners will take on 15-time winners Real Madrid, while Villa face Paris Saint-Germain.
And if they are both victorious, it will be an all-English affair in the semi-finals, with the winner of those two ties meeting in the last four.
On the other side of the draw, Barcelona face Borussia Dortmund in the last eight, while Bayern Munich take on Inter Milan.
The winners of those ties will play each other in the semi-finals.
All roads lead to Munich for the Champions League final on May 31.

How does the bracket format work?
---------------------------------
From the knockout phase play-off stage onwards, the UEFA Champions League takes a bracket format.
So how does it work? Well, sides who finished between ninth and 16th in the league phase standings are seeded, while those between 17th and 24th are unseeded.
Teams are then paired by their final position in the 'play-off' section of the table, so, ninth and 10th are paired, 11th and 12th, and so on, creating four pairs of seeded teams, and four pairs of unseeded teams.
So, when Celtic and City finished alongside one another in 21st and 22nd respectively, they knew they would face either Real Madrid or Bayern - who finished in 11th and 12th.
But what is the significance of the bracket format?
From here, teams who were paired together (take Bayern and Real as an example), will split off into separate sides of the draw, thus meaning they could not meet until the final.
During the draw, unseeded teams (17th-24th) were first drawn into a bracket position - which would ultimately determine their route to the final - should they make it.
Seeded teams were then drawn as the play-off fixtures took shape. Again, those paired together fell on opposite sides of the draw.
The same will happen again when the last-16 draw is made following the play-off fixtures. So, for example, Real will face either Atletico Madrid (who finished fifth) or Bayer Leverkusen (who finished sixth).
Say, for example, Real draw Atletico in the last 16, then Leverkusen will end up on the opposite side of the draw to face Bayern.
Can teams from the same country face each other?
------------------------------------------------
Yes, sides can face another team from the same national association from the knockout phase play-offs onwards.
And that first happened at the play-off stage of the competition as Paris Saint-Germain faced fellow Ligue 1 side Brest.
