The New York Jets are clearing the decks so Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey can kickstart this new regime in the way they want.
Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams are already out, so C.J. Mosley and receiver Allen Lazard is thought to be next, but the Jets can't gut their entire offense in Year 1 for Glenn. Can they?
Clearing the deadwood is good business, but the Jets don't want to have no weapons for Justin Fields outside of Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall.
This brings us to a rather underrated player who is set to hit free agency: tight end Tyler Conklin. A solid pro for his three years in New York, Fields could use a dependable target not named Wilson.
For Andy Vasquez of NJ.com, he makes the case that Tyler should be sticking around.
"He's a reliable target and highly respected in the locker room – and clearly a big market hasn't materialized for him in free agency," Vasquez wrote. "Adding him could ensure the Jets' depth and leave them free to pursue another tight end in the draft."
And we agree.
Conklin, in his three seasons of horrible Jets offensive play, has had yards totals of 552, 621 and 449, while having at least 50 receptions in each year and has a combined seven touchdowns.
Those numbers aren't mindblowing, but they are solid, and right now, that's what New York needs. Spotrac.com has his value at $9 million APY and a contract of three years at $27 million.

Now, that seems a little steep for New York, but it should at least be a possibility for the franchise to explore. Maybe a more team-friendly deal for Tyler should be forthcoming, as the Jets, without him, would be "stuck" with Jeremy Ruckart (105 yards, 18 receptions in 2024) and Kenny Yeboah (47 yards, one touchdown from eight receptions).
The Jets have too many other roster holes to draft a tight end early, so maybe bringing back Conklin needs to be something that the new regime seriously thinks about.
