After a disastrous finish with the New England Patriots, Robert Kraft’s organization traded the former first-round pick to the Jaguars early in the 2025 league year. Brought on to be the primary backup for Trevor Lawrence, Jones saw extended action after the former first-overall pick suffered multiple injuries. Making seven starts while appearing in 10 games, Jones went 2-5 on the season while completing 65.3% of his passes for 1,672 yards, eight touchdowns, and eight interceptions.

Jones originally entered the league as a first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Selected by the New England Patriots, the Alabama product spent his rookie training camp battling veteran Cam Newton for the starting job. Emerging victorious, Jones started all 17 games and looked like a potential franchise quarterback. Guiding the team to a 10-7 record, the rookie finished his inaugural season by completing 67.6% of his passes for 3,801 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. While the season with a blowout loss to the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card round, the future looked bright for Jones and the Patriots.

Unfortunately, the quarterback could not build on that promising rookie season. After losing offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels to the Las Vegas Raiders, Jones struggled to adapt to de-facto offensive coordinator Matt Patricia. Going 6-8 in his 14 healthy starts, Jones finished the season with 2,997 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

The Patriots brought in old friend Bill O’Brien for the 2023 season, but Jones continues his downward spiral. Starting in 11 games, the quarterback recorded 2,120 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions before head coach Bill Belichick benched him for Bailey Zappe.

Since signing his rookie contract, Mac Jones has appeared in 52 games while making 49 starts. While on the field, the Alabama product has completed 65.9% of his passes for 10,590 yards, 54 touchdowns, and 44 interceptions.
