The Swedish centre forward has scored a staggering 22 goals across all competitions this term

Former Manchester United winger Lee Sharpe believes Alexander Isak will leave Newcastle United for a new challenge as speculation regarding an exit from St James’ Park continues to intensify.

Isak has scored a staggering 22 goals from 32 appearances this season and is the Magpies second highest scorer behind Alan Shearer in the Premier League era. He is blessed with incredible speed, terrific movement, amazing ball control and exceptional composure in front of goal.

These are factors that Premier League title hopefuls Arsenal in particular are missing this season and it has been epitomised at various points this term including both 2-0 defeats to Newcastle in either leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final and most recently during a 1-1 draw with a struggling Manchester United side.

Many such as Paul Merson feel signing a proven finisher will be the missing piece of the jigsaw in Arsenal’s title pursuit with them seemingly heading for a third silver medal in a row this season.

And the view is largely shared by Sharpe, who claims that he expects Isak to move on to one of the top teams in England in the summer after three incredible seasons leading the line in the North East.

Lee Sharpe comments on Alexander Isak future

Ex- Red Devils and Leeds United winger Lee Sharpe has told BetBrain that he believes Alexander Isak will leave Newcastle this summer, suggesting Liverpool or Arsenal as potential suitors.

“I can’t see Alexander Isak staying at Newcastle,” he said. “With the season he’s had and the money that he’ll get offered, I think he’ll have to end up leaving the club. It would be nice and sentimental for him to stay for another season after getting that new contract, but if he gets injured next season and doesn’t get the chance to go to an even bigger club than Newcastle this year, he’ll end up regretting it.

“Sometimes these offers from the biggest clubs in the world only come round once in a lifetime, so I think with the season that he’s had, he’s going to have those calibre of clubs looking at him. I don’t think he’ll be able to turn that down.

“I think somewhere like Liverpool or Arsenal would be great for him – he’d score a lot of goals for both of those clubs given how strong and dominant they’ve looked this season. He could possibly be that missing link at Arsenal – I suppose it depends on whether he’d prefer to live in Liverpool or live in London!

“I’m not sure whether the likes of Real Madrid or PSG would be in for him, but I hope he stays in the Premier League because it’s the most exciting league in the world to watch.”

Will Alexander Isak leave Newcastle this summer?

Newcastle United are currently sixth in the Premier League table, two points behind the top four and with a strong chance of qualifying for the Champions League with UEFA’s co-efficient which could allow England to have five teams in Europe’s elite competition.

They are also on the cusp of achieving silverware for the first time in 56-years as they prepare to go toe to toe with Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium.

Isak is seen as a fundamental part of the club’s vision moving forward and is not thought to be available for transfer, according to reports from Mail Sport journalist Craig Hope, who posted on X: “Newcastle will not allow their best players to leave if they miss out on the Champions League this season, sending a clear and robust message to rival clubs, intermediaries and their own dressing-room.”

Hope adds that Newcastle by the summer won’t be in a position where they need to sell players due to PSR rules and instead claims that the Magpies are likely to be in the market for improvements after a subdued 24 months in the transfer window.

The Sun, however, believes that it would take around £160 million for Newcastle to part with their star striker if the Swede does decide to seek a new challenge.
