On March 13, commencing at 11 a.m. for approximately 40 minutes, Mr. MIYAJI Takuma. the State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from H.E. Jakaya Kikwete, the Board Chair of Global Partnership for Education (GPE). The summary is as follows:
At the outset, State Minister Miyaji welcomed the visit of the Board of Chair Kikwete and, while explaining Japan’s past contribution to GPE, commended GPE’s efforts in improving basic education of which Japan considers essential for promoting human security.
State Minister Miyaji also expressed his desire to further strengthen collaboration with GPE while taking advantage of the opportunity presented by the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), scheduled in this August in Yokohama.
In response, the Board of Chair Kikwete expressed gratitude for Japan’s contribution to GPE and also expressed expectations for Japan to play an even greater role given the rising demand for assistance.
At the meeting, both sides concurred on the importance of promoting international education cooperation and confirmed that they will continue to work closely, including the opportunity of TICAD 9.
