West Ham could be in pole position to sign Jonathan David with the player’s agent visiting the London Stadium.

Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are just two of the Premier League clubs said to be keen to sign Lille forward Jonathan David on a free transfer this summer, but could face serious competition from Premier League rivals West Ham.

There has been no shortage of transfer rumours linking David with a move to the top flight come the end of the season with his deal with the French outfit set to expire. Fichajes named Spurs and the Blues as potential suitors alongside Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle United in a fresh report this week.

However, as spotted by ExWHUemployee, David’s agent was spotted in the stands at the London Stadium on Monday night as West Ham took on Newcastle United. The Hammers were also linked with interest in David during the January window. The outlet said: “Jonathan David’s agent was in attendance on Monday night, which we understand was the club wooing his team of representatives as we try and land the player as a signing this summer.”

West Ham try to ‘woo’ Tottenham and Chelsea target

Graham Potter has a shortage of striking options at his disposal. The £27 million Niclas Fullkrug has been injury ridden while Michail Antonio wasn’t at his prolific best even before his horror injury in a car crash. Meanwhile, Mohammed Kudus is all too aware of his lack of form himself while Evan Ferguson is only on loan from Brighton and is set to return to the AMEX at the end of the season.

David, who has plundered 22 goals in all competitions this season, could be the out-and-out striker that West Ham need. The player is weighing up his options and clearly considering the Hammers with his agent at the ground this week.

West Ham’s underwhelming performance in the 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United won’t have helped their case, and perhaps strengthened that of the Magpies who are also interested in the player.

Fichajes adds that ‘formal negotiations’ over the player’s future are set to step up pace in the coming weeks with David not short of interest. The outlet claims that his agreement for a Premier League switch is ‘imminent’. Given that he is a free agent, he can agree a pre-contract at any point from now.

Jonathan David confirms Lille exit this summer

Speaking in February, David said: “Yes, I’ll leave on a free transfer at the end of the season. And as far as my future, I hope to grow. To become a better, and play at the top clubs in the world, if I can.

“First of all, though, I just want to enjoy myself. And never forget that football is about fun.

“You’ll all know [my destination] when the time is right. That’s at the end of the season. I’m not going to comment before then. First of all, I want to end this season well. The finale promises to be exciting, and I want to play well and help the team out. Then when the season is over, my decision will be made and announced.”

In other news, this is how the West Ham players rated in that 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United with a standout getting a 9/10.
