49ers supremo jets in, Jayden Bogle ‘incensed’: Four things you may have missed in Leeds win vs Millwall

Leeds United have returned to the top of the Championship table after defeating Millwall but there are some moments you might have missed from the match.

After slumping to their first defeat since November at Portsmouth on Sunday, it was crucial Leeds United got back to winning ways against Millwall at Elland Road.

Sheffield United and Burnley missed the chance to really turn up the heat on Daniel Farke’s side on Tuesday as they could only draw their fixtures.

However, The Blades moved to the top of the table with a point so Leeds needed to claim all three to get back an advantage.

It was far from a stellar performance but an own-goal set up by Manor Solomon and an Ao Tanaka strike secured the victory.

Here are four moments you might have missed from the game.

Jed York is the CEO of the NFL franchise San Francisco 49ers, which is of course affiliated with Leeds through the ownership of 49ers Enterprises.

He is rarely seen in Yorkshire despite being on the club’s board but was in attendance on Wednesday night to watch the side earn a vital victory in the Championship title race.

Jayden Bogle furious with referee

It was a quiet afternoon for Jayden Bogle as Millwall rarely, if ever, tested him down their left flank and he wasn’t able to do much going forward himself.

However, there was a moment when he got ‘incensed’ with the referee as Joe Bryan avoided a booking for yet another foul on Dan James.

Bogle went after the referee to argue his case but Farke quickly called for him to let it go.

The right-back was one yellow card away from a two-game suspension and that would have been a foolish way to get it. Thankfully, the game was the cut-off point for 10 yellow cards so he is no longer at risk.

Ao Tanaka praises Junior Firpor with celebration

It was a return to form for Tanaka, as even before his late strike he had helped Leeds completely dominate the game with his economical passing in midfield which controlled the tempo.

His fine goal was the icing on the cake as he met Junior Firpo’s inch-perfect pull back to fire it right into the top corner.

Tanaka paid tribute to the creator with his celebration by ‘cleaning his boots’ in a clear sign of respect to Firpo – who now has nine assists this season.

Leeds and Millwall have a historic rivalry that stretches back decades and there is certainly no love lost between both sets of supporters.

However, the Millwall fans did not show out in force for the match. They can hardly be blamed given it’s a long journey from London on a Wednesday night but Leeds fans didn’t care about that.

Instead, when it was announced over the tannoy that only just over 300 of them had made the trip, it earned one of the biggest cheers of the night from the home crowd.
