Virgil van Dijk has set the tone for Liverpool after they exited the Champions League to Paris Saint-Germain at the round of 16 stage.

The club captain fronted up following the penalty shootout defeat, speaking to broadcasters and reporters at Anfield on Tuesday night. Then, the day after the night before, Van Dijk continued to lead the way on social media.

"We're all disappointed this morning," the caption of his post reads, "but it's time to get ready for Wembley. Embrace & enjoy another cup final, hopefully we can bring it home again. 10 games to go. Trophies still to fight for. Together! (red heart emoji)".

His predecessor as Reds captain, Jordan Henderson, appeared to approve of the message, commenting with a flexed biceps emoji and a red heart.

Plenty of the current squad also liked that post, including Ryan Gravenberch. Hours later, the midfielder shared a similar sentiment in a separate post.

"Tough blow," the caption reads, "but still plenty to fight for this season. And that's where our focus is. See you at Wembley, Reds (flexed biceps emoji) (red heart emoji)."

Another former Liverpool midfielder, Georginio Wijnaldum, plus Caoimhin Kelleher, Darwin Nunez, Dominik Szoboszlai, Jayden Danns, Luis Diaz, Van Dijk and Wataru Endo liked that post.

His compatriot Cody Gakpo also acknowledged the disappointment of defeat.

"Disappointed with the result, but proud of the team," the caption of his post read. "Our UCL journey ends here, but there's still plenty left to fight for—eyes on the trophy (folded hands emoji)."

Curtis Jones also took responsibility on social media for missing his penalty in the shootout.

Nunez also posted on Wednesday afternoon, sharing photos from the aftermath of Gianluigi Donnarumma saving his spot-kick.

He captioned that post, translated into English from his native Spanish: "Get up and keep going, as always."
