'Everyone in the changing room': Levi Colwill shares how Chelsea teammates really feel about life under Enzo Maresca

Levi Colwill has been speaking about the Chelsea dressing room and Enzo Maresca ahead of his side’s game against Copenhagen on Thursday night.

Chelsea head into the game with a one-goal advantage, beating Copenhagen 2-1 in the first leg of the last-16 Conference League tie.

Colwill did not start that day, but having been on media duty on Wednesday, it looks like he could be named in the first XI for the second leg.

In the build-up to it, he has discussed how he and his teammates feel about life under Maresca. Colwill was solid against Leicester City last weekend so will be looking to build on that performance if he does play on Thursday.

Chelsea dressing room enjoying playing under Enzo Maresca

It is probably fair to say that not every Chelsea supporter has had fun watching Maresca’s side this season.

During the Leicester game, Maresca had to urge fans to show more support, with some clearly not enthused about the football they were seeing.

Colwill and the rest of the Chelsea dressing room, however, seem to be enjoying how they have been playing under the Italian.

Speaking to the Daily Mail and others about Maresca, Colwill said: “The way he teaches us every day has been top. I really enjoy playing under him and I know everyone in the changing room does too. Over time, you’ll see us get better and better because of him. I love the way he plays football, I love the ideas he has. I think he’s amazing.

“The ideas he brings in training to help us break teams down is all down to him. As a manager and a person, he’s top, he pushes us every day. He’s serious at times but he can also be a joker. He’s got a great balance, and you don’t want to go on the wrong side of him. He’s a top professional.”

Colwill could have a new centre-back partner at Stamford Bridge next season. It is being reported that Chelsea hope to sign Ousmane Diomande for £42m this summer.

How Levi Colwill feels about former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel

After Chelsea’s games against Copenhagen and Arsenal, club football will take a pause for the international break.

Colwill will be hoping for an England call-up, which would see him link up with new Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel.

Colwill did not get a chance under Tuchel when he was still Chelsea manager, but there are no hard feelings between the two, with the central defender a huge fan of his ex-boss.

“I trained a few times with him and went on pre-season with him so I know he’s a top manager, a top guy and I’ve had a chat with him,” Colwill also told reporters.

He later added: “He is a really demanding manager. All the top ones are. They push their team and they want to get the best out of them and when he won the Champions League here, you see it, the high energy. He’s a great character to be around.”

Colwill remains a player Liverpool like, but it would be a complete shock if Chelsea entertained any offers from their Premier League rivals this summer.
