West Ham have done something incredible this term that only 7 of 92 league teams have managed

West Ham United have been really poor in the Premier League and all other competitions this season, there’s no two ways about that.

Graham Potter has made an impact since taking over the London Stadium, by making West Ham harder to beat in the Premier League for a start.

However, there’s clearly so much more work to do for the Hammers head coach, and he is said to be planning a big squad revamp in the summer.

That’s exactly what the Hammers need.

West Ham have been utterly awful over the past 12 months and displayed genuine relegation form, with our defensive record a huge concern.

Premier League is unforgiving but West Ham so poor

The Hammers’ terrible defending over the past 12 months has cost us dearly.

Only the three relegated teams conceded more than West Ham last season.

And this term, we have conceded 48 goals in 28 games – only the four teams below us in the table have let in more.

There’s absolutely no way that West Ham can compete for a top seven finish again with defending like that.

It’s unsustainable to say the least, but there is some good news that might just surprise the Hammers fans.

It might surprise you to hear what the Hammers have actually done this season, especially given how poor we were during the first half of the season.

West Ham are yet to conceded in added time in any league game, something that only seven other teams out of the 92 in English league football have managed to do (Play Maker Stats).

Tottenham, Crystal Palace, Burnley, Stoke City, Sheffield United, Crewe Alexander and Notts County are the only other sides who are yet to concede after 90 minutes.

That’s quite the achievement from the Hammers, and it has to go down as a massive improvement from last season when we conceded four injury time goals.

In a what has been a totally forgettable season so far, the fact that we haven’t conceded in injury time yet is quite the feat for us.
