'They'll be getting': Wolves set for transfer kitty boost this summer thanks to savvy 2022 deal …

Wolves will be in the market for new players this summer – and the club currently look good for a windfall heading into next window.

Fans are optimistic that the club will stay be in the Premier League for 2025/26.

As things currently stand, Wolves are six points clear of the relegation zone.

It has been a tough old season, and many fans will be glad to see the back of it and are already welcoming the chance to start afresh this summer.

Wolves will approach the summer with a self-sustaining model once again, with a couple of big sales expected to help boost the transfer budget.

But Wolves could also see an increase to their budget with a little help from Nottingham Forest.

Eyebrows were raised when Wolves sold Morgan Gibbs-White to Nottingham Forest.

It had looked as though Gibbs-White was finally set to get a proper chance at Molineux, with Bruno Lage starting him in the first couple games of the 2022/23 season.

But Nottingham Forest came calling with a big bid that Wolves ultimately couldn’t turn down.

As per the E&S, Wolves received an initial fee of £25 million for Gibbs-White.

Through appearance add-ons, that fee has since reached around £35 million.

The total fee that Wolves agreed with Forest for Gibbs-White’s transfer was £42.5 million, but the last add-ons were thought to be based on Forest getting into Europe.

At the time, that was almost laughed at.

But this season, Forest have been flying under Nuno Espirito Santo and actually looked like they will now secure European football, thus netting Wolves the rest of the Gibbs-White transfer free.

Journalist Liam Keen said on the E&S podcast: “It was £42.5 million tops, and they’ve got roughly about £35 million of that. Yes, them getting into Europe would get them all of the money so they’ll be getting closer to the full fee, so they’ll be in for a little bit of cash if Forest get into Europe.

“But a lot of that cash was mostly appearance-based.”

Currently, Gibbs-White is the sixth biggest sale in Wolves’ history. This summer, his fee could surpass that of Max Kilman to put him into the top five.

The Reds are third at the moment and if they don’t get into the Champions League, they will surely at least get Europa or Europa Conference.

Wolves also agreed a sell-on clause over Gibbs-White, so there is potentially even more money to be made on him.

Savvy from Wolves

The terms Wolves agree with Forest over Gibbs-White are starting to look good.

Few expected Forest to actually achieve European football, but there is now a very good chance of that happening.

It was somewhat of a shame that Gibbs-White left when he did.

Appearances – 106

Goals – 16

Assists – 24

He is not the most popular figure around Molineux these days, but there was undoubtedly a feeling just before he left that it was finally his time to shine, and that the team could be built around him.

Forest came in with an offer that was too good for Wolves to refuse.

He’s done very well at the City Ground, and looks like he’ll help Forest into a European competition and hand his former club a windfall in the process.
