Liverpool have been dealt a significant injury blow ahead of their Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United, as confirmed by Arne Slot.
Trent Alexander-Arnold was forced off during their Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night after appearing to jar his knee while challenging Vitinha.
The right-back, who had been playing well, received treatment on the pitch but was substituted in the 73rd minute for Jarell Quansah.
After the match, manager Arne Slot gave an update on the injury, expressing concern over the severity. Slot told Metro,
“He had to come off, and that’s never a good sign. From what I’ve heard, the images of how he got injured didn’t look good, so I would be surprised if he’s available for Sunday.”
With the final just days away, it seems increasingly likely that Liverpool will have to face Newcastle United without their key right-back. This marks the second consecutive season that Trent will miss out on the Carabao Cup final.
Slot’s update means Liverpool fans are now anxiously awaiting confirmation of the injury, as Alexander-Arnold’s contributions on both the defensive and attacking fronts have been crucial for the Reds. Losing him would be a significant blow to their chances of securing another domestic trophy.

Injury woes continue to haunt Liverpool and Slot
In addition to the Trent injury, Liverpool also suffered another setback with Ibrahima Konate, who was substituted during extra time.
However, Slot seemed less concerned about the French centre-back’s condition, suggesting it was more a case of fatigue than injury.
“For me, Ibou was more tired than injured,” Slot added.
Arne Slot expects Ibrahima Konate to be fit for the Carabao Cup final but we are still waiting to discover the extent of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s injury.

However, with Alexander-Arnold’s deputy, Conor Bradley, still sidelined, Liverpool’s defensive options are increasingly stretched ahead of the final.
Meanwhile, Newcastle also face their own injury concerns for the final. Anthony Gordon will miss out due to suspension, while Lewis Hall is sidelined for the rest of the season.
Meanwhile, Lewis Hall has been ruled out for the rest of the season. Also, Sven Botman is another absentee, and Jamaal Lascelles is unlikely to be fit in time for Sunday’s game.
