Good morning, Broncos Country.
Our beloved Denver Broncos are off to one heck of a start to this year’s free agency period. They bolstered the defense with two outside additions, retained several players from last year’s roster, and made a huge splash yesterday with a key signing on the offensive side of the ball.
Inside linebacker? Check. Dre Greenlaw and Justin Strnad are in the fold for 2025. Safety? Check. Talanoa Hufanga will be an upgrade over P.J. Locke—so long as he stays healthy. Tight end? Check. Welcome to the Mile High City, Evan Engram! You’ll be a focal point in the team’s passing attack and be a tremendous help to Bo Nix’s continued development and progression.
Without question, the Broncos are a much-improved team on paper than they were 72 hours ago. And the best part about it? They’re not done yet. Not even close. In fact, the best is yet the come. I have no doubts they are going to get much better once April comes and the 2025 NFL Draft gets underway.
The Broncos have shored up most every glaring need on the roster. The one major exception would be running back. That’s OK though! This year’s talent at the position is historic. There’s no doubt Denver will be drafting one of their top-rated backs. Heck, I wouldn’t be surprised if they added two given the depth of this year’s class.
Their free agency success provides them with tremendous flexibility in regard to how they can approach the draft. With four picks in the Top 125 and three sixth-round selections, they possess plenty of draft capital to make some waves. Trade up? If Sean Payton and George Paton love a particular prospect, I wouldn’t count them out of being aggressive.
A strong roster entering the draft also affords them to truly take advantage of the best player available philosophy. It could even allow them to trade down if they have a handful of quality players they really like. It’s going to be a blast watching that whole process plays out. I can’t wait to see who they wind up picking in a month and a half.
As always, thank you for reading. Here is today’s slate of articles for Horse Tracks.
