Paul Pogba's 18-month ban from professional football is over, but the midfielder is still a free agent despite heavy-handed rumours over a return to Manchester United.
Pogba, 31, has been without a club since his contract was terminated at Juventus in November. He left the Serie A outfit despite having his four-year ban reduced on appeal after testing positive for the prohibited substance DHEA. Since, there has been talk about Pogba moving back to United for a third spell.
However, nothing has materialised, and Fabrizio Romano reported this week that there is no truth in speculation that Pogba could re-join United. The France international is now free to play again after his ban ended on Tuesday but is still a free agent and has been training alone in Miami.
Giving a new update on Pogba's future in a video on his YouTube channel, Romano said: "[Paul] Pogba is officially allowed to play professional football again, so the ban is over.
"From January, he had the chance to train with a professional football club, and now he can play professional football. Pogba is available as a free agent and able to return, but there has still been no agreement despite the rumours about a done deal with Manchester United. There is still nothing decided.
"Pogba is open and waiting for an opportunity. Pogba is training on a regular basis in Miami to be back as soon as possible in terms of returning. But Pogba is available and ready, so it means Pogba can play football from now. It's very important because the ban is over, so let's follow what is next for the French midfielder for sure."
Last week, Pogba hinted that he close to a return to football after posting a selection of images where he looked to be training hard, accompanied by the caption: "Someone is back."
In an interview in 2024, Pogba was asked if he missed United during his period away from football. "Truly, I had so many problems," he told Sky Sports. "I didn't have time to think of Manchester United. I needed to get rid of all my problems and play.
"I watch Manchester United and still have teammates there. They are still one of the biggest clubs in the world - but I wasn't thinking about more stuff."
