Liverpool now “really advanced” in efforts to sign defender this summer – reliable journalist

**Liverpool are “becoming really advanced” when it comes to their interest in Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez, according to reliable journalist Lewis Steele.**

In fairness to Andy Robertson, he was arguably one of the Reds’ standout players in their 1-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.

But that’s not to say that the Scot isn’t past his best as an elite player, with age beginning to catch up with him after so many years at such an intense level.

It is important that Liverpool sign a new left-back in the summer transfer window, with Kerkez emerging as one of the leading candidates to snap him up, along with the likes of Antonee Robinson and Jorrel Hato.

_The Daily Mail_‘s Steele reports that the Reds are “really advanced” in their interest in the 21-year-old and that the Hungarian “will meet up with his inner circle in Budapest next week when he is back home for international duty, with his future on the agenda.”

He even mentions that compatriot Dominik Szoboszli “may well be in his ear”, as he looks to entice his international colleague to move from the south coast to Anfield at the end of the season.

**The perfect long-term Robertson replacement**

At this point, it does feel like Kerkez is Liverpool’s first-choice left-back option in the summer, and it’s easy to see why he is such a firm target for Arne Slot and the recruitment team.

The Bournemouth man has been superb for the Cherries this season, with a stunning assist for Marcus Tavernier in last weekend’s 2-2 draw away to Tottenham summing up his quality. Meanwhile, former Watford [Troy Deeney](https://www.givemesport.com/sky-sports-liverpool-in-race-to-sign-one-of-the-best-left-backs-in-the-world/) has heaped praise on him, saying:

_“For me he is one of the best left-backs in world football already. He is exceptional with the ball and without it, runs all day and has loads of room to grow. It is not surprising that Liverpool have been linked to him.”_

At 21, Kerkez could feasibly be Liverpool’s left-back for the next decade, with his combination of defensive tenacity, pace and attacking output standing out, following [five assists](https://www.whoscored.com/players/424273/show/milos-kerkez) in the Premier League this season.

It shouldn’t mean the end for Robertson, though, who can still be a hugely experienced squad player, enjoying plenty of minutes in the process.
