‘Lot of sense’ – Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl backed for Southampton move by former EFL…

Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl going to Southampton this summer would make a ‘lot of sense’, former EFL player Jobi McAnuff has said.

Sheffield Wednesday could face a battle to keep hold of Rohl come the end of the season. SWFC are currently eyeing a place in the play-offs.

Rohl, 35, has worked wonders since taking over at Hillsborough in 2023. He is Southampton’s ‘top’ target to replace Ivan Juric, as per The Sun, and has worked there in the past.

Ex-Watford, Reading and Leyton Orient winger McAnuff has said on BBC’s 72+ podcast: “Would make a lot of sense (going to Southampton) for me with the rebuild they will definitely need after their season in the Premier League. He’s experienced at Championship level, knows the club as well so it makes a lot of sense.

“I’m sure Sheffield Wednesday fans won’t thank anyone for pointing that out but ultimately he’s doing a brilliant, brilliant job under what has been difficult circumstances at times. Obviously you say he hasn’t been backed, what if he had been backed? Look where they are now in the table.

“Everyone has got their own ambitions, unfortunately I don’t think the chairman of Sheffield Wednesday is showing enough at times. They’ve got a top, top manager and it is going to be difficult to keep hold of him come the end of the season.”
