Report: Leeds United want £8.5m striker who kept his football career a secret

Daniel Farke and Leeds United may not be too content with their striker options going into the Premier League, but this new target would certainly be a strange decision

Farke’s trust in his forward options has cost him at times this season, but luckily for the Leeds boss, they had no problems against Millwall.

Despite the goals, Joel Piroe had a frustrating night for Leeds, but thankfully, the Dutchman didn’t affect the Whites like his display against Portsmouth.

Piroe’s and Mateo Joseph’s inconsistencies might lead Farke to question his options as a new candidate has emerged.

Although it looks like a promising signing, the 49ers will do well to avoid this deal if there are any developments.

The 49ers have added £8.5m striker to Leeds United’s striker plans

As well as Piroe, it’s been a slow season for Joseph, who could’ve ended up away from Elland Road in January with Real Betis pushing to sign Joseph.

Both strikers have had their moments, but it’s unfair on Piroe to be included with Joseph this season, as the 25-year-old has 21 goal involvements, which is the joint-most in the Championship.

However, this hasn’t stopped the 49ers from searching for targets for the summer, as a new option has emerged.

MORE LEEDS UNITED STORIES

According to Africa Foot, Leeds have included Almeria striker Ibrahima Kone on their transfer list.

Kone is currently on loan in Saudi Arabia with Al-Okhdood and has scored three goals and registered an assist from 15 games.

He’s not made a striking impact and has amassed just three appearances this year, but that hasn’t stopped him from ‘attracting interest’ from Farke.

The Malian striker has an £8.5m release clause with Spanish outfit Almeria, which Leeds could look into activating in the summer.

There have been bizarre transfer stories, but this one from Kone is certainly a new one.

Leeds have a transfer battle for Manor Solomon, as this should be a priority for the 49ers instead of looking into the prospect of Kone, especially after what the striker did.

Speaking to the print edition of French outlet Le Telegramme (20/03/22), Kone described how he opted to hide his career away from his family, with them only finding out he was a professional through TV.

“When I was little, I had to hide the fact that I was playing because things weren’t going too well at school,” Kone said.

“Once my family heard my name on the radio. They figured that there might be a lot of people called Ibrahima. But when I started to play for the senior team at Club Olympique Bamako, where I was top scorer, they saw me on television.”

His form isn’t great as it is, but the 49ers should steer clear of signing Kone after this bizarre story.

Farke will want to make sure they sign the right player if they’re in the Premier League next season, and the prospect of Kone seems like a major red flag.
