Geoff Schwartz: Veteran offensive line will let Caleb Williams get comfortable

On her latest Making Monsters podcast on our 2nd City Gridiron channels, Taylor Doll was joined by former New York Giants offensive linemen and current FOX and SiriusXM analyst Geoff Schwartz to discuss the new additions to the Bears’ offensive line. Geoff shares his thoughts on each of the three new Chicago Bears offensive linemen, Jonah Jackson, Joe Thuney, and Drew Dalman, plus he gives his thoughts on Braxton Jones and Darnell Wright.

He also breaks down what to expect from a Ben Johnson o-line and how it could help Caleb Williams and the run game.

Schwartz thinks the veteran additions will help the continuity of the line, which is one of the most important aspects of the unit.

“It’s hard to put into words what that communication means. But, you know, it’s the point where, like, when you play with someone you’ve been with a long time, you don’t have to actually say anything.”

“I remember in New York, I played with Marshall Newhouse, and we had not played together a while, but we were both veterans, we understood the game, and we get to the line of scrimmage, and we both say to each other, like, ‘you’re good. You got it.’ We wouldn’t make calls, we wouldn’t have to point to anyone.”

“When you have a veteran offensive line up front, especially inside, what it will allow is Caleb Williams to work with that unit and get comfortable to where he is making the same call the center would make.”
