Just days after the Seattle Seahawks opted to trade wide receiver DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers, they attempted to make a move to try and find a replacement.
Digging into this year's free agent crop, the Seahawks might have had a tough time replacing such a strong presence. But, they gave it a shot.
On Day 3 of the NFL's free agency period, Seattle went out and signed a journeyman to come in and potentially play the Metcalf role.
The Seahawks signed free agent wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling
The former fifth-round pick back in 2018 by the Green Bay Packers finds a new home after having spent last season with the New Orleans Saints.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling is a fairly recognizable name for football fans, but not necessarily for all the right reasons. If he sticks to the final roster, he'll have played a regular season game for his fifth career team.
His best overall season came back in 2020 with the Packers, when he caught 33 passes for 690 yards and six touchdowns. His 20.9 yards per reception led the NFL that season, and from there, he was able to cash in.
But, now? It sure looks like Aaron Rodgers is to thank for the length of his career, because he hasn't done a whole lot since.
Some might remember him for his time with the Kansas City Chiefs where he won a pair of Super Bowls. If you were to ask Chiefs fans their opinion of the veteran wideout, you'd get a whole lot of mixed emotions.
But, the overwhelming majority would describe him as an incapable deep threat who sees far too many dropped passes.
If the Seahawks are truly banking on MVS being a Metcalf replacement, like major outlets have stated, they better not hold their breath. New Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold truly has one weapon at the moment, within his wide receiver room, and that's Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Following the release of Tyler Lockett and Metcalf's trade, the Seahawks were completely rebuilding that room. That sort of goes along with the theme this offseason, though. Trading Geno Smith in favor of landing Darnold, the Seahawks are getting ready to field a much different-looking team in 2025.
