The Patriots made a splash move when they reportedly agreed to a deal with Milton Williams, but not everyone loved the transaction.
Sports Illustrated’s Matt Verderame gave New England an “F” for the reported Williams deal. The main reason for the grade was the belief that the Patriots overpaid for a young player who benefitted from being on the same line as Jalen Carter, Josh Sweat and Nolan Smith.
Well, Williams caught wind of the offseason grade and posted it on his Instagram story Wednesday along with a memo and laughing crying emoji.
The Patriots reportedly swooped in to hand Williams a massive four-year deal after it was initially believed he would agree to a deal with the Carolina Panthers. The 25-year-old reportedly will sign a four-year, $104 million deal that includes $63 million guaranteed. Other analysts also were hesitant about the reported price tag and question if the 2021 third-round pick could pay it off.
Those critiques might serve to put a chip on Williams’ shoulder as he’s set to become a marquee player on New England’s defensive line.
