Liverpool have identified Marc Guehi and Dean Huijsen as their top targets to strengthen at centre-back in the summer transfer window.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the Reds are prepared to spend big to secure their targets.
This comes as Arne Slot is keen to add a new centre-back to his squad as they will look to build on what has been a successful season for the boss.
Football Insider revealed Liverpool want to sign a centre-back regardless of the future of Virgil van Dijk amid ongoing uncertainty about his future.
The 33-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season as things stand, despite the Reds’ attempts to agree a contract extension.
Meanwhile, Guehi, 24, is widely expected to leave Crystal Palace as he will have just 12 months remaining on his deal at Selhurst Park.

Huijsen, 19, only joined Bournemouth in the summer of 2024, but his performances have attracted intense interest in his signature as he has a £55million release clause in his contract.

Marc Guehi and Dean Huijsen lined up by Liverpool
Brown told Football Insider last month that Liverpool are concerned about Ibrahima Konate and are planning to replace him in the summer window.
Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted both Guehi and Huijsen would be good fits for Slot’s side.
“*Marc Guehi is one I expect Liverpool to go for,*” he told Football Insider.
“He’s a very solid all-round defender, and he’s very highly-rated by a number of clubs.
“I’ve always been very impressed by him because he’s good on the ball and all that, but he’s happy to be solid defensively as well, he’s not interested in all the flashy stuff.
“He’d be a very good fit for Liverpool and I think he’s more than capable of going into that side.
“Geuhi is already England’s starting centre-back and he’s Palace captain, he’s got a lot going for him.
“I also wouldn’t be surprised to see them to go for the Bournemouth centre-half, Huijsen.
“He has a lot of qualities which make him ideal for Liverpool – he’s quick, tall, can pass the ball, reads the game well, heads the ball, and I can only see him getting better.
“Both he and Guehi represent very good options, so whoever they end up with would be an improvement.
“It’s going to cost a lot of money for Liverpool to get them out of their clubs, but I think they’re ready to spend on the players they think will improve their team.”

Arne Slot prepared to strengthen defence with Milos Kerkez deal
Alongside the planned addition of a new centre-back, Liverpool are also set to prioritise the signing of a new left-back as they plan to strengthen Slot’s defence.
Brown told Football Insider on 11 March that Liverpool are preparing to sign Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth and are willing to meet his £40million asking price.
The 21-year-old is viewed as the perfect fit to replace Andy Robertson amid concerns about the Scotland international’s long-term place in the starting XI.
Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 7 March that Liverpool’s move for Kerkez is “progressing well” as Dominik Szoboszlai has played a key role in talks.
