Tyrese Haliburton delivered an all-time great regular season moment for the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday night with a 4-point play being down three against the team’s biggest rival in the Milwaukee Bucks while on national television with Reggie Miller on the call. But where does that rank among his best shots and moments of his career?
I went on Locked on Pacers to discuss exactly this and more. Tony East and I had a great time discussing clutch moments of Haliburton’s time with Indiana and then also diving into some of the best regular season games the Pacers have had in their franchise history. You can watch the full podcast below.
Here’s our consensus top-3 ranking of Haliburton’s best clutch moments:
1. Tyrese the Terror: Game Winning Shot against Milwaukee in the first round of last season’s playoffs. Game 3 floater after getting past Patrick Beverley and hitting the bucket with the foul as the Pacers survived some insane shot making from Khris Middleton.
2. The Hali Mary: Last night’s miracle shot with 3.4 seconds left. If the first one didn’t happen in the playoffs, this 4-point play would be at the top of the list already. Recency bias? I don’t think so.
3. Tyrese Haliburton goes off in Miami. 43 points and a deep game winner to beat the Heat in their arena with 2.6 seconds left. 111-108 Pacers.
Others that we discussed include his first game winner with Patrick Beverley involved as a defender that came against the Bulls in close to the same spot as the Heat shot, the 4-point play against the Boston Celtics that sent the Pacers to Las Vegas for the In-Season Tournament, the Dame Time dagger in the In-Season Tournament semi-finals that sealed the Pacers victory in that game, shots this season against the Sixers, the Magic, the Pistons, and the Jazz, and another one against the Bucks from last season where he hit a 3 with the Pacers down 2 with about a minute left. Here’s to the more to come.
“There’s definitely a lot of Reggie moments in this building,” Haliburton said after hitting that shot with Miller in the building. You know, I’m just trying to create some of my own … so that kids and fans that looked up to him when he was here, they can look at me the same way.”
We also discussed numerous best regular season games for the Pacers in the podcast including a bunch from this current iteration of the team, the handful of amazing Victor Oladipo games in a short time period, a plethora of game-winning putbacks, a collection of games I like to call Lance Stephenson returns, and a bunch of older great games.
