There could be a new fallback option for the Pittsburgh Steelers at quarterback. The Las Vegas Raiders have officially released quarterback Gardner Minshew from their team with a failed physical designation. Minshew suffered a broken collarbone that ended his tenure with the Raiders.

The failed physical designation is one to watch, as it could indicate Minshew still has to heal from the injury, but he could be an option for the Steelers if they look elsewhere. He is 28 years old, and Minshew has made 45 career starts.

A sixth-round pick out of Washington State by the Jacksonville JaguarsMinshew has become one of the league’s more fun journeyman spot starters. He has played around the NFL, joining the Jaguars, Raiders, Indianapolis Colts, and Philadelphia Eagles.

Over his career, Minshew has 11950 passing yards, 68 touchdowns, and 34 interceptions. The volatility in his game, particularly his tendency to collapse under pressure and turn the ball over, has prevented him from being anything more than a lower-tier starter, but the Steelers will only have a few options on the market if they miss on both Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson. Minshew could be a fallback option in that doomsday scenario.
