Liverpool stepping up interest in 10-goal PL striker on Manchester United, Aston Villa radar

Liverpool have stepped up their interest in the services of Manchester United and Aston Villa attacking target Liam Delap.

According to a report from Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Liverpool are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit ahead of next season, and they are interested in acquiring the services of Liam Delap, who is doing wonders for Ipswich Town. The Reds have intensified their pursuit as they aim to fend off competition from Manchester United and Aston Villa for his signature.

While Delap went up the ranks at Manchester City at some pace, he ended up parting ways with them last summer in search of a more prominent role. The decision to join Ipswich Town has certainly worked in favour of the 22-year-old, as he has been a regular feature for them in the Premier League.

The Englishman has 10 goals and two assists in his 27 league outings. His performances have caught the eye of quite a few top clubs in the country, who could try to sign him ahead of next season. Liverpool are one of the front-runners for his signature.

Liverpool are pushing to sign Liam Delap

While the Reds have been doing wonders in the ongoing season, they will undergo an overhaul in the summer. The Merseyside club are looking for a new striker option as Arne Slot is not happy with the output of his current forwards. Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, and Luis Diaz have all played as the number nine this season, but none have managed to cement their place in the role.

With Darwin Nunez linked with a move away, they want to bring in a new striker who can help them in the short as well as the long run. Liverpool’s scouts have been keeping a close eye on Delap, and they feel he could be a great fit in the Dutch manager’s system.

Liverpool might have to compete with rivals

The Reds have already started working on a potential transfer, having watched him in action multiple times this year. While Liverpool have stepped up their interest, they will still have to battle Manchester United and Aston Villa to secure his services.

Ruben Amorim is also on the lookout for a new striker, and Manchester United have asked to be kept informed about Delap’s situation. Meanwhile, Aston Villa have had a look at him this season. While Delap is not at the top of Unai Emery’s wishlist, they could still end up making a move next summer.
