Declan Rice nor Oleksandr Zinchenko celebrated their goals for Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium against PSV for differing reasons during the Champions League round of 16 second leg.
Despite scoring his first goal of the season - and first-ever in a senior Uefa club competition - Zinchenko held his hands up almost in apology after curling in a strike from the edge of the penalty area. The reason behind that was because of the season - 2016/17 - he spent on loan at the Dutch club soon after joining Manchester City from FC Ufa.
"I didn't spend a lot of time over there," Zinchenko acknowledged during a post-match interview with the club, "but from that season when I was on loan, I've got amazing memories because the people are so lovely, the warm welcome I received, the love as well.
"Even afterwards, when I came back from the loan to Manchester City, I was still going there to that place for some days off and stuff. This is how much I really love this place, and I just wish them all the best; they are fantastic people."
In an Instagram post on Thursday morning, the first photo was of Zinchenko's non-celebration, and its caption reads: "Quarter final (dizzy symbol emoji) Emirates on (fire emoji) as always."
Rice also posted a photo of him after scoring the second, captioning that "no celebration police tonight" after receiving backlash for how he reacted after equalising against Manchester United at Old Trafford. While celebrating, he twice made a 'calm down' gesture to the crowd and put his forefinger to his lips.
Meanwhile, Raheem Sterling and Riccardo Calafiori focused on progression to the quarter-finals, with the latter describing it as a "whole team effort" despite assisting both goals and being named Uefa's player of the match. Calafiori also encouraged his teammates, saying: "Let’s go guys."
